Reading about self-development can be a great way to enhance your interpersonal skills and chances for a successful job search, but we get it—sometimes, it’s hard to get ourselves to pick up a book, especially after a long day. Luckily, there are other excellent, more passive ways to gain some insights on how to grow into a successful young professional, regardless of what industry you’re looking to break into. In this blog, we’re highlighting four career development podcasts that new college graduates should consider listening to to gain insight on how to build a meaningful and fruitful life after school.
1. Career Tools
With the Podcast Awards 2010 “Best Business Podcast” recognition under its belt (and nominations every other year it’s been eligible), the “Career Tools” podcast, hosted by Wendy and Sarah, is an excellent resource for aspiring and current professionals. On this weekly podcast, the hosts focus on tips and tricks you can use to grow your budding career, covering everything from time and calendar management, to what to do after you get a new job, to even how to stop yourself from making stupid email mistakes.
You can listen to the Career Tools podcast on Apple Podcasts or through the web player on its website.
2. A Real Piece of Work: A Jobs Podcast for Young People
Specifically targeted toward aspiring professionals, “A Real Piece of Work: A Jobs Podcast for Young People” is another great career development podcast hosted by Matt Rebro and Joy Dodson from WVIK, Quad Cities National Public Radio (NPR). This monthly podcast is notable for its interviews with highly-successful professionals and entrepreneurs who give tips on how to build a career.
For example, the podcast recently had Amber Matthews, the Director of Operations and Staff Coach for FC United, where she discussed the importance of believing in yourself, hard work, and resilience.

3. WorkLife with Adam Grant
Presented by the TED Audio Collective, “WorkLife with Adam Grant” is a weekly podcast hosted by an organizational psychologist who talks to business professionals and media personalities to uncover tips that professionals can use to make life in the office more productive and bearable.
In recent episodes, Grant interviewed AirBnb CEO Brian Chesky about the future of work, author John Green about tracking your attention, and actor David Duchovny about the importance of failure and how it can teach us life lessons.
