Job Description

 We are seeking a skilled Family Practice Physician Assistant for a 40-day locum tenens assignment at a correctional facility in California. Starting on 05/19/2025, this opportunity offers a Tuesday to Friday schedule from 7:00am to 3:30pm, with 32 hours per week and the possibility of some weekend work. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a male and female correctional setting, managing a diverse range of medical needs including chronic disease management, urgent care, annual health evaluations, and initial inmate assessments. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions, performing procedures, and providing comprehensive care in a correctional environment. This role requires strong clinical skills, adaptability, and proficiency with CorEMR electronic health record system.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Provide comprehensive primary care services in a correctional setting

• Manage chronic diseases such as asthma, diabetes, and hypertension

• Conduct sick calls and urgent care assessments

• Perform annual health evaluations for inmates

• Complete initial inmate health assessments

• Diagnose and treat acute conditions including cold, cough, and flu

• Utilize CorEMR electronic health record system for patient documentation

• Collaborate with correctional staff to ensure patient care and safety

• Adhere to all facility policies and procedures

• Maintain accurate and timely medical records

• Perform necessary medical procedures within scope of practice

• Provide patient education on health maintenance and disease prevention

• Adapt to the unique challenges of providing healthcare in a correctional environment
