Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Psychiatrist for a 60-day locum tenens position at a Correctional Facility in Texas. This assignment begins on 05/05/2025 and offers a flexible schedule of either four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with no weekends or call required. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing a range of psychiatric conditions including mood disorders, psychosis, suicidal ideation, and potentially substance use disorders in an inpatient setting. Working alongside two Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, the psychiatrist will be responsible for stabilizing patients of all ages, including adolescents, which may involve working with their families.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (4x10 or 5x8 hour days, no weekends, no call)


Responsibilities and Duties: 

• Diagnose and treat a variety of psychiatric conditions in an inpatient setting 

• Manage patients with mood disorders, psychosis, suicidal ideation, and substance use disorders 

• Collaborate with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners to provide comprehensive care 

• Stabilize patients of all ages, including adolescents 

• Interact with families of adolescent patients when necessary 

• Conduct psychiatric evaluations and develop treatment plans 

• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications 

• Provide crisis intervention as needed 

• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using Cerner EHR system 

• Participate in treatment team meetings and care coordination 

• Ensure compliance with facility protocols and safety measures 

• Stay current with the latest developments in psychiatry and correctional healthcare


Additional Information: 

• Texas medical license required 

• Board certification in Psychiatry preferred 

• Experience in correctional or inpatient psychiatric care is beneficial 

• Familiarity with Cerner electronic health record system is a plus
