MDs are required to complete 40 Category 1 CME hours, including two hours relating to ethics, pain management or addiction care, and two hours relating to controlled substances, prescribing opioids or addiction per biennial licensure cycle. Every four years, MDs must complete two hours of suicide detection and prevention. ODs are required to complete 35 CME hours per annual licensure cycle, including 10 Category 1A CME hours, and two hours on the topic of substance abuse of controlled substances, the prescribing of opioids or addiction. In even numbered years, ODs must complete two CME hours relating to ethics, pain management or addiction care. Every four years, ODs must complete two hours of suicide prevention and awareness education.
